Obesity is a Parking Lot for Multiple Life-threatening Diseases
The prevalence of overweight and obesity in India is increasing faster than the world average. For instance, prevalence of overweight increased from 8.4% to 15.5% among women between 1998 and 2015, and the prevalence of obesity increased from 2.2% to 5.1% over the same period. India had 0.4 million obese menor 1.3% of the global obese population in 1975, but in 2014, it zoomed to the fifth position with 9.8 million obese men, or 3.7% of the global population. Among women, India has jumped to the third rank with 20 million obese women (5.3% of global population).
